COLLEGE COUNCIL RENEWS MANDATE OF THE COLLEGE PRINCIPAL, VERY REV. JOSEPH NKYI ASAMOAH

The new Governing Council of the Offinso College of Education which was formed on September 29, 2022, to replace the previous College Council convened her first meeting on Tuesday, 25th October 2022. The substantive Chair, Rt. Rev. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, who is also the Kumasi Diocesan Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana directed the meeting. At the meeting, among issues that found their way as part of the agenda was whether or not the tenure of the current College Principal should be renewed.

The College Principal was first appointed on 1st November 2018 to stair the affairs of the college. Hence, his first term of office shall be due on 31st October 2022 which is why it formed part of the agenda of the just organised College Council meeting.

The College Council, upon extensive deliberation on the motion unanimously resolved that the current College Principal, Very Rev. Joseph Nkyi Asamoah be allowed to continue to occupy the seat of the College Principal of this noble institution. Very instrumental in his reappointment is the College Council’s considered view that the Principal has remarkably improved the physical infrastructure and academic performance of students of the college within the years (2018-2022) under review. The College Council was genuinely impressed with the performance and leadership of the College Principal, Very Rev. Joseph Nkyi Asamoah. As part of this report is the list of some developmental projects carried out under the watch of the College Principal.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECT(S) COVERING THE PERIOD OF 2018/2019 ACADEMIC YEAR TO DATE

A. GETFund Funded projects

  1. The government has constructed for and handed over a 2000-seater capacity auditorium to the college.
  2. Construction of a modern lecture hall and ICT complex which was initiated in 2016 has stalled.
  3. A 300-bed capacity hostel facility has also commenced and it is steadily on-going. It is hoped to be completed in fifteen (15) months’ time.

B. Internally Generated Fund (IGF) funded projects (Kindly refer to the appendix for pictorial evidence):

  1. Acquisition of one thousand (1000) conference chairs for the college auditorium to solve the problem of using the dining hall over the years as a venue for other college gatherings and also saving the college from using huge sums of money to rent chairs from the outside for big gatherings such as congregations, matriculations, etc.
  2. The college also refurbished lecture halls with 500 modern tables and chairs to improve teaching and learning.
  3. Palm kennel stove was also installed at the college kitchen to bring a relief to the cooks by saving them from smoke inhalation which is a health hazard.  Additionally, dining hall tables and benches were procured to meet the increasing number of students.
  4. The college also installed maize mill, flour mill and tomato mill for domestic use in order to reduce the high cost of payment at commercial rate.
  5. The sick bay to the college has also been renovated and well-resourced. Currently, it provides the basic health needs of the entire college community. In collaboration with the Offinso South Municipal Health Directorate, the facility is now NHIS accredited and it is managed by a Physician Assistant and a nurse.
  6. With the exception of the outer lanes of the college, most part of the college have been laid with pavement blocks now.
  7. The new Principal’s bungalow’s construction is finished and furnished. The Principal currently resides there.
  8. At the Male Students’ Hall, 24-seat KVIP washrooms have been renovated and replaced with W.C.
  9. To ease the strain on student housing, a historic dormitory block with a capacity of 120 beds has once more undergone refurbishment.
  10. The construction of the college fence started earlier in 2021 and is still ongoing. It has now reached a total length of five hundred and fifty (550) meters. Thus, 300 meters on the frontage and 250 meters on the Ampabame end of the college. Meanwhile, it has significantly increased security within the college, as intended.
  11. The college’s new entrance, the construction of which began in February 2022, is now complete. The Kumasi Diocesan Bishop and now, the Chair for this Governing Council, Rt. Rev. Stephen K. Owusu, and the Principal, Very Rev. Joseph Nkyi Asamoah, cut the sod in that regard on February 8, 2022. For the moment, pavement of the pedestrian walkway from the entrance leading to inner part of the college is in progress.
  12. Additionally, the college’s staff common room has undergone a comprehensive renovation with new swivel seats (enough for the entire staff), installed air conditioners, and curtains.
  13. The administration building, college library, dining hall, lecture halls, male halls and the SRC secretariat have all had their outside paintwork replaced.
  14. Moreover, some college departments have received supplies such as office desks, chairs, computers, printers, curtains and cabinets.
  15. More so, additional borehole has been drilled for the college bringing the total number of boreholes to seven (7).
  16. The college has also bought two (2) tractor mowers, two (2) slashers and two (2) lawn mowers to make our landscaping tasks easier and more convenient.
  17. The college leveled and re-grassed the college football field; constructed a concrete oval around it, and created two (2) concrete volleyball courts as well as a concrete handball court to an appreciable standard in order to enhance college sporting activities.
  18. The administration block annex was maintained by way of tiling the base of the building as the building showed a sign of water adsorption at the base.
  19. Last but not least, the college has created a website with the domain name www.ofce.edu.gh in order to close the communication gap with stakeholders.
